Event information

DBC have a permit (waitlisted) for 1 to 7 June to do the Gubara walk in Kakadu. The duration and logistics will depend on the final makeup of the group. There are a couple of places left. The trip will start by driving to Jabiru in the afternoon/evening on Friday 31st May. The walk will start early on Saturday morning.

Some overnight experience is needed to do this walk. It may still be quite warm so you’ll need to have a good level of fitness.

Most of the walking is fairly flat - there are a few short hills, grassy stony woodland, some rock hopping and short sections of thick grass/ vegetation. There are sections of the walk without shade. Camping will be on rock ledges.

Some other key points:

  • This area dries out after the wet. It’s been a good wet season so flowing water is likely, and there will be some good pools for swimming.
  • In case water quality is poor in some parts, you might want to use water purifying tablets.
  • Bring a minimum 3 litres water and some extra to leave in the car. Used soft drink bottles cost nothing/ weigh nothing.
  • Bring a small day pack as we will be doing ‘day’ walks.
  • You need to have current DBC membership to confirm your place.
  • Each person will need to arrange their own Kakadu Parks Pass before the walk (free for NT residents).
  • Preference given to members who are willing to drive their own vehicle (4WD not needed for Gubara) or car pool.
